Leake Parish Information PackKnayton and Borrowby INTRODUCTION. This small pamphlet was originally sponsored by the Parochial Church Council of St. Mary's, Leake, In the hope that it will prove useful to newcomers to the two parishes of Knayton and Borrowby and surrounding area. A Knayton Borrowby information sheet is now available and can be viewed or downloaded here. St. Mary’s, Leake. The Church of England Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Leake, is situated approximately a mile to the north of Borrowby and Knayton on the east side of the A19. The Medieval Village of Leake has long gone, but the ancient church remains on the site where it was built in the 12th Century and has served the villages of Knayton and Borrowby for many centuries. The church is administered by a "Priest-in-Charge", namely the Revd. Toddy Hoare, who also looks after the other churches in what is known as the "Hillside Parishes" in the villages of the Siltons, Cowesby, Kirby Knowle, Felixkirk and Boltby.
Hillside Parishes Service times Area Stewardship Scheme. The villages of Knayton and Borrowby and the surrounding farmsteads have been sub-divided into groups and members of St. Mary's have agreed to be a *contact" with the church and community. To receive your copy please advise the distributor in your area who will be pleased to arrange delivery, subscription is £4 p.a. Mother’s Union. The Leake branch is now in abeyance. Hillside Music in Worship Group. This group leads the worship at 'Joint Services' and special occasions such an Confirmation, at all the various churches throughout the Hillside. Commitment and enthusiasm to participate in the whole spectrum of music is wore Important than musical expertise! Rehearsals happen on an 'as needed' basis usually involving two evenings sometime before the service. For further information contact - David Frith - 537008. Methodist Chapel, Borrowby. Vicar: Services are held every Sunday October-Easter 2.30 p.m. Easter-October 6.30 p.m. Parish Councils. Knayton. website The Council meets in the Village Hall several times a year. This county controlled C of E school serves the villages of Borrowby, Cowesby, Kepwick, Kirby Knowle, Knayton, Over & Nether Silton and Upsall. The present attractive building was completed In 1989 and stands amidst open fields. It houses four well-equipped classrooms and a hall. The school has a roll of about 100 pupils and provides a happy hub of the community. For further Information contact:- The Headteacher 537291 Village Halls. Both village Halls are used by a variety of groups on a regular basis but both can be hired for meetings, parties or other activities. Knayton.
Borrowby.
Borrowby Show. Wed 29th July 2009 First held In 1949 now a regular feature on the last Wednesday in July. Show committee secretary: Mrs J E Peckitt 537557 Knayton Sports. First held in 1977 these usually take place on the last weekend in June beginning with Dominoes and pool on Friday evening followed by Quoits, fancy dress, Children's and adult sports on the Saturday afternoon on the green. A barbecue concludes the activities in the evening. For further Information contact - David Johnson 537754 Meet monthly on the first Tuesday at 8pm, normally in Knayton Village Hall. To watch demonstrations on food and other crafts, hear speakers on numerous subjects, and have guided tours around places of local interest, not forgetting our visits to hostelries to sample their culinary delights. (Something of interest to everyone!) You need no qualification other than that of gender.( We do invite partners occasionally) To retain membership, Subs. (currently £6pa) are due each October. Details given in the Parish magazine. The 'Thursday group' meet every Thursday at Knayton village hall at 9.00am. for a walk of up to five miles. Hillside Garden and Social Club.
